"MY SUPPORT"

I’ve always been ‘A GO-GETTER” and have determination to succeed in everything I set my heart to and going through a divorce made me a more determined person.  In 2002, I went through a divorce and I was left to care for three very small kids in fact my girls were 5, 7 & 10 years.  The first thing you think about is, I will have the support of my family to help me out and support my decision however I must be honest and sadly say that I never had the support of my family.   At one point, not having the support of my family took a toll in my life emotionally and it hit me really hard but I finally realized that I was on my own and I had to find a way to make sure my girls were going to be okay, I had to be strong for them.  So how does one believe in a support system when it fails at you at its most vulnerable time in one’s life?

I decided to put myself back to school and found a full-time job.  We struggled financially but I feel content to say that my girls always had a roof under their head and food on the table.   Again, the word Support didn’t exist in my vocabulary or in my life until the day I met a lady in my college class.  She was also going through a divorce and had kids from that day forward we both found the support we needed in each other.  There were times we cried together but opted to make the best of our new lives so we always found something positive to look forward to and we found that laughing was a great remedy for many things.

After six years of being single, I met this wonderful man that took us all under his wings.  I married this man knowing that he was going to be the support that I needed to help me raise my girls and a man that could be there for me in good and tough times.  I love the fact that he believes and has showed me that creating and maintaining a strong family bond is essential as well as supporting each other no matter what comes our way.  The best support I can truly say I have is my husband, my kids and two friends.  I know that I can come to them and express my feelings without being judge and more importantly that they will comfort me.  I do have to say that as discouraging it was one day not to find the support that I needed from my family I believe in the meaning of support again thanks to my friend and my wonderful husband.  I feel very blessed with having a very supportive husband and great kids they accept me and love me for who I am our support for each other is boundless.
