As a child, I remember looking forward to going to school
and playing during recess. We used to
have a teacher that always played with us and we got to choose what games we
wanted to play. I can remember vividly
how awesome it was and how special we felt that our teacher would play with us
during recess. Although he limped due to
a bad leg he always loved playing with us as well as he taught us the importance of including every child while playing.
Now a day I have noticed that recess has
become the thing of the past and children are not given enough time to play in
school. I have also noticed that teachers do not play with kids they will sit around to talk
to other teachers. Teacher's are not engaged to play with kids and what is most sad is that teachers will notice kids that do not fit in with other kids and they turn the other way so they don't have to deal
with it. This is the perfect opportunity for teachers to engage children
to play with each other and lead by example and play with that child so
other children can learn to include all children when playing.
I will never forget my teacher Mr. McLaughlin
he was a role model in every way and he taught us that playing was very
important for sharing, learning, healthy development and most importantly I
will never forget how fun he made it for all of us when he played with us.

Play today has tremendously changed. As growing up, I loved to play outside on the
swings, on the Merry-go-round, running and playing tag. Back in my days we looked forward to being
outside and playing as soon as the sun came out until the sun went down. We
took advantage of the beauty of nature.
We loved playing in all four seasons and we looked for every season to
come because we had specific games to play during each season. For example, during the fall we used to love
to see the tree leaves changed their color to red and we liked to play with the
falling leaves. During the winter, we
loved to go to the snow and play in the snow.
During the spring, we loved seeing all the flowers bloom and we loved
going to the gardens and picking flowers. We also loved flying our kites that we
made ourselves, and since we had rainy days in the spring OH! how we loved to play out in the rain. We had a favorite song during the rainy season while getting wet in the rain we sang over and over again “It’s raining its pouring the old man
is snoring” we never got tired of signing that song. Finally, during the summer months it was so
hot that we would go outside and play with the water hose and get wet in my mom’s
front yard. We had many reasons to play outside in every
season and today children do not even realize the great things nature offers
and they are missing so many awesome games they could play outside. I do wish that children could take advantage
of nature and use nature to its fullest but children now a day do not care for
nature and for the awesome seasons we have.

As a child, I was a big dreamer and I loved playing and
letting my imagination take over me, I truly saw MAGIC. I
learned through play to become more social and to become a dreamer. As I grew and in my soul those games and dreams I used to
play turned into future goals. I believe
that playing really helped build my self-worth and it gave me a sense of my own
abilities and to feel good about myself.
I learned to make sense of the world and to cope with things. Pretending to play helped with my emotional
development and as an adult it has helped me see life through a different lens one
that allows me to cope and overcome many situations that have happened in my
life.
