1-1.1—To
be familiar with the knowledge base of early childhood care and education and
to stay informed through continuing education and training.
I believe in becoming a lifelong learner in order to
continue expanding my knowledge in the area of child development. It is vital for me to continue learning about
the new research and current trends that are found within the early childhood
field.
I-1.10—To
ensure that each child’s culture, language, ethnicity, and family structure are
recognized and
valued in the program.
In reflecting about my own culture and ethnicity it
made me thinks about my childhood and the challenges I went through with the
language barrier my parents had as well as I did not feel so connected to other
kids or the teacher. I believe that as
an educator it is imperative for us to become mindful of students and parents
culture. I have to learn how to connect
with every child in their own unique way.
There is no one-size-fits-all and every child must be treated
uniquely. It is also important to learn
about family structure and the value they have in their culture.
“We shall serve as advocates for
children with disabilities and their families and for the professionals who
serve them by supporting both policy and programmatic decisions that enhance
the quality of their lives.”
Being an advocate for all children
is vital however when it comes to children with disabilities my passion to be
their advocate for them is most important.
Having a daughter with learning disabilities was what helped me realize
that this population of students are not getting a fair chance. All students should be treated equally and
they should have the same access and level of instruction provided to
them.
